For over fifty years, Injection Sclerotherapy has been the preferred treatment option for spider veins and small varicose veins, as recommended by top spider vein doctors in Winston-Salem and NC spider vein doctors.
During this minimally invasive procedure, a small needle is inserted directly into the vein, causing minimal pain for the patient. Then, a foam sclerotherapy technique using FDA-approved sodium tetradecyl is used to treat the vein. This chemical solution irritates the lining of the vessel, causing it to swell and stick together, resulting in a fading or disappearing of the colored appearance of the veins. Following treatment, the veins are wrapped with an ace (cotton, sponge, and/or coban) or a compression hose is applied.
While this treatment option does not require anesthesia, it may not be as effective for larger veins and has a higher recurrence rate compared to other minimally invasive techniques. As such, multiple treatments may be required for complete resolution.
